My name is Dr. Remona Rhooms
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I attended D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY where I was awarded my Bsc in Biology. I took two years off to gain experience in order to improve my application for vet school. On acceptance I flew to England to attend The Royal Veterinary College which is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). I graduated in 2014 and so my veterinary journey began.
I started my career at Animal Care and Control, the largest shelter in New York City, and loved it but I wanted to do more and reach animals before they entered the shelter. I also needed more training. I then found myself at a large 24/7 emergency practice located in Long Island which included a total of 4 satellite outpatient clinics. There, I was exposed to various cases and gained invaluable experience, training and, the most important- confidence. I have taken this experience with me and opened Brooklyn's Finest Animal Clinic. Here we offer affordable healthcare and a second home for your furry family member. In 2020, we went from a small room on Nostrand to a large facility on Rogers Ave. Our original clients couldn't be happier and more proud of our progress.
In 2021, my journey continues. Our logo is a drawing I made of my first Cane Corso, who was a rescue from the ASPCA. Her, along with my experience at the ASPCA (I worked there 1 year before starting vet school), initially inspired my dream to start my own rescue/shelter. My ultimate dream has always been to open an "ASPCA" in Brooklyn. I never understood why most of the big nonprofit organizations were located in Manhattan, with the exception of Low Cost Vet Mobile. They need locations in the other boroughs. So stay tuned. While this year may bring many uncertainties, it also comes with many possibilities. I hope to announce my shelter later this year- fingers, toes and paws crossed.
