Licensed Veterinary Technician

We are looking for an EXPERIENCED F/T Veterinary Technician to hopefully start ASAP. Must have veterinary experience and be comfortable and confident with handling cats and dogs, as this will be your main job. This includes the ability to restrain dogs over 50 pounds (we do occasionally see large mastiffs, etc ) and aggressive cats! Must be comfortable talking to strangers in person and on the phone. Other job duties include cleaning (cages and litter boxes), sweeping, etc as needed. We only perform simple surgeries and dental cleanings. No allergies, please. We do have 2 free-roaming, overly friendly clinic cats- must LOVE them. As a small clinic, we are always open to new ideas and suggestions. We are slowly growing and looking forward to adding new services and employee benefits.

Salary starts at $17.00, but is negotiable based on experience.

Associate Veterinarian

Position Description

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Reports to Dr. Rhooms

Status: Part-time (would evolve into Full-time)

Summary of Job Purpose and Function:

The primary purpose and function of the associate doctor is to deliver the highest quality veterinary care and an exceptional client experience. The associate doctor advocates for pets and their quality of life; builds a long term bonding relationship with clients; contributes to the development and maintenance of the human-pet bond; educates clients and hospital associates on all aspects of pet health; mentors and develops an efficient, collaborative and productive veterinary medical team; and improved both the medical quality and business performance of the hospital. We are looking for a Veterinarian to diagnose and treat our clients’ pets. We are looking for someone to work Monday's, Tuesday's and Wednesday's 9am-4pm. Appointments start at 9:30 and are generally 30 min each. Our clinic specializes in dogs and cats only.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Deliver the highest level of veterinary care to every pet in a professional and ethical manner while ensuring that the client and their pet have an exceptional experience.

  • Establish trust and gain the confidence and compliance of clients through effectively delivering appropriate preventive care, performing complete diagnostic workups, developing through treatment plans, communicating home care instructions, and planning follow-up visits.

  • Assimilate information gathered through effective history taking, physical examination and diagnostic workup to arrive at an appropriate and effective clinic decision.

  • Lead the veterinary hospital team through the daily schedule and caseload, delegating tasks to paraprofessionals and improving hospital efficiency.

  • Practice veterinary medicine in a manner compliant with the State Veterinary Practice Act, Federal and/or State Controlled Substance laws, along with appropriate medical record documentation.

  • Address and resolve client concerns arising from the medical care of a pet.

  • Work well with hospital team and peers, enjoying being a member of the larger veterinary community/profession;

  • Develop strong lasting relationships with clients.

  • Demonstrate integrity and ethics in all actions and behaviors.

  • Practice evidenced-based medicine and preventative care when data or guidelines exist, using sound judgment when they do not.

  • Perform all basic surgeries with appropriate anesthesia, monitoring and pain management. 

  • Educate clients and hospital associates to improve their level of knowledge about veterinary care and husbandry.

  • Charge for services rendered and products/prescriptions dispensed. 

  • Constantly strives to enhance medical quality, hospital efficiency and hospital profitability.

  • Other job duties as assigned.


Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to be confident around pets (dogs and cats)

  • This position requires special hours including working weekends.

  • The noise level in the work environment could be moderately high.

  • Requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform duties while at hospital.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry,move) up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, finger-hand-arm dexterity with the ability to reach and grasp, and visual acuity to use keyboard and operate equipment.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Associate is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances. 

Experience, education and/or Training:

  • Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required. 

  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable state veterinary board.

  • Minimum of two years relevant professional veterinarian experience is required.
